Canteen is back for a double summer special
Canteen (Frome Food Network’s pop-up pay-as-you-can restaurant supported by Future Shed) is back. And, because we’ll be setting up two events for the summer, we’re leaning fully into the shorts and t-shirt vibes: think fresh, light salads; meat and veg cooked over live fire, and so on, and so on.
The details so far:
Canteen #5
Friday 20th June
5-7pm
Trinity Hall, Frome
Same same but different for our next pop-up, as we return to Trinity Hall but with a few twists on the ususal: As Canteen’s menu starts with what’s available seasonally and locally, expect something lighter than the hearty stews and pies we served up over the spring/winter.
Also, GetPickled – run by Frome locals Paula and Devon — will set up with a bar of fermented drinks, again playing off the season. Think elderflower lemonade, rhubarb cordial – that kind of thing.
Canteen #6
Friday 15th August
5-7pm
Victoria Park
(Hopefully) making the most of the summer weather, Canteen heads outdoors to Victoria Park and the wonderful Community Cafe there. The menu will go out on our social channels nearer the time, but don’t be surprised to see familiar British summer fare.
What should be a given though is a community potato salad as part of the spread – with the help of schools around town, Kerry at Frome Seed Library has been growing potatoes from seed since the late spring, which we’ll serve up on the day in the park.
If the weather has other ideas hwoever, we’ll move the pop-up back to Trinity Hall.
FFN mixer at The Griffin
Tuesday 3rd June
7pm, upstairs
The FFN’s next mixer — where those involved in food locally come to meet, talk, and seek to collaborate — has been re-scheduled for the 3rd June. Headlining the mixer is Francesca Brkic, who’s recently set up Little Origins in Frome.
Little Origins is, for the most part, a ready-made food service aimed at young children, tapping into things like regenerative agriculture, minimal processing, transparency, and better nutrition. Francesca has also just opened a play cafe in Frome.
