The post-Future Shed era for FFN and Canteen
It was a glorious turnout at Canteen’s seventh pop-up at Trinity Church last Friday, where we served 149 people venison ragu or herby white bean sauce with roasted gnocchi, chased by a decadent silky hot chocolate.
But, as you may have heard, Frome’s Green & Healthy partnership – which among many other things helped rally, direct, and support Frome’s community groups like Frome Food Network over the last 3 years – is winding down over the next month or so.
What does this mean for FFN and Canteen? Well, with Future Shed being a major part of the Green & Healthy partnership, we will no longer have the funding and guidance enabled by Future Shed – i.e. the kind that has helped kickstart and develop Canteen to this point.
While FFN and Canteen might go a bit quiet for the time being, rest assured the network is continuing to explore how Canteen might return and function on an ongoing basis.
With or without Canteen, there are other ways you can take action in the interest of wholesome food that supports the community and circular economy:
Support local farmers at Boyle Cross farmers’ market, running every month (including this Saturday alongside the Weekly Market)
Volunteer with a local food project
Come along to an FFN social or farm tour
Other means to get local, more responsibly-made food are listed in the FFN’s producer directory.
Also, if you’re interested in other local green and sustainable initiatives, sign up to Edventure’s newsletter or Sustainable Frome’s newsletter in lieu of Future Shed / Green & Healthy’s mailouts, which will soon go offline.
